EmoConnect PPG&Motion

An app that connects to EmoConnect, measures PPG and nine-axis motion signals together, and stores them as a Raw Data CSV with study events.

Product overview

What does it measure and what do you get?

Signals

PPG + nine-axis IMU

Review PPG with accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer values on one timeline.

Primary output

Raw Data CSV by session

Store measurement time, source signals, and study events in a file.

Environments

Mobile and desktop

Choose Android, iOS, Windows, or Linux according to the app or SDK package.

Designed for these workflows

Biosignal researchers

Use it when you need unprocessed PPG and motion signals for your own analysis.

Study operators

Use it to record study periods such as baseline and task with sensor streams.

Algorithm developers

Use it to deliver Raw Data to Python, MATLAB, or your own analysis program.

How to measure

Measure and save in four steps

Button positions may vary by version, but the shared workflow is discovery, signal review, event recording, and storage.

Before you start · Check these four items before measuring

01

EmoConnect device

Charge and power on the device, then keep it close to the measurement host.

02

Target environment

Confirm the EmoConnect PPG&Motion app or SDK product for your operating system.

03

Bluetooth permission

Enable Bluetooth and allow the nearby-device permissions required by the operating system.

04

Session details and storage

Define participant codes, experiment name, and event rules, and ensure enough storage for CSV files.

  1. STEP 1

    Discover and connect the device

Enable Bluetooth, refresh the EmoConnect list, and select the target device. Confirm connection and battery before starting a measurement.

    • Disconnect the device from other hosts
    • Confirm the device name or identifier
    • Confirm that status changes to ready for measurement

Discover and connect EmoConnect in the app for your operating environment.
  2. STEP 2

    Review the PPG signal

Confirm that the PPG waveform is streaming. Allow time for stabilization after wearing the device and check for gaps or saturation.

    • Confirm stable skin contact
    • Check waveform continuity and sample reception
    • Record periods with large movement
    EmoConnect English live PPG screen
Waveform shape varies with fit and motion.
  3. STEP 3

    Review the nine-axis IMU

Confirm that accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer streams arrive on the same timeline as PPG. Run a test movement for each relevant axis.

    • Confirm ACC, Gyro, and Mag x/y/z
    • Record device orientation and axis definitions
    • Compare PPG and IMU start and end times
    EmoConnect English live IMU screen
Fix and document device orientation before the study.
  4. STEP 4

Record events and save the CSV

Record baseline, task, or custom events on the measurement timeline and end the session. Review headers, row count, events, and missing periods in the saved CSV.

    • Confirm participant and study details before ending
    • Compare event values with actual task times
    • Open the file in your analysis tool and review units and missing values

Data example

These values are stored in the CSV

The anonymous values below demonstrate the file structure. Scroll horizontally to review every sensor column.

PPG Raw Data

Store source PPG values over time.

Accelerometer

Store ACC x, y, and z in m/s².

Gyroscope and magnetometer

Store Gyro and Mag x, y, and z together.

Study events

Record baseline, task, or other study periods on the signal timeline.

Downstream analysis

Continue in Excel, Python, MATLAB, or your own program.

Raw Data CSV example rows

PPG, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and event values share the same time row. The event value represents the period code defined by the study.

Before contacting support

Check these items in order

01

The device is not discovered

  1. 1.Check power and battery.
  2. 2.Check Bluetooth and nearby-device permission.
  3. 3.Disconnect it from another program.
  4. 4.Reopen the app and search at close range.
02

The PPG waveform is unstable or missing

  1. 1.Check sensor contact with the skin.
  2. 2.Allow time for signal stabilization.
  3. 3.Reduce motion and external-light effects.
  4. 4.Run a test and confirm continuous storage.
03

Rows or events are missing from the CSV

  1. 1.Confirm that the session ended normally.
  2. 2.Check storage permission and free space.
  3. 3.Review event timing and coding rules.
  4. 4.Record the app or SDK version and sample period.

Frequently asked questions

Are PPG and IMU stored in the same file?

In the provided sample structure, time, PPG, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and events share the same CSV row. Check the documentation for your app or SDK version for exact fields and units.

Can I read heart rate or HRV directly from Raw Data?

Raw Data is the signal before analysis. Apply your own algorithm or review the processed and calculated metric scope available with PRO.

Are mobile and desktop outputs identical?

They share the device-connection and signal-collection goal, but UI and available functions may vary by product, operating system, and version. Review the product description and README for your environment.

What is the event field?

It separates study periods such as baseline and task on the signal timeline. Define and document event values before the study.

Send these details with your inquiry

Prepare enough information to identify whether the issue occurs during discovery, signal reception, or file storage.
